As leaders in Alpha Sigma Alpha, Christine and I agree that mentors have been a key part of our leadership journey. We both have naturally had women come into our life to serve as mentors to us and also women that we have had the opportunity to mentor. In a recent article by Forbes magazine, “Do You Need a Shrink Or a Mentor? And What’s The Difference?”, it is shared that if you are seeking someone to coach you day-to-day than you should find a therapist as finding a mentor occurs more organically.

“Mentorship is different. It is something that should happen organically, with someone who finds an interest in you as much as you find an interest in them.”

We both agree that we didn’t go looking for mentor relationships but they happened effortlessly. We genuinely wanted to invest time in the other person as they wanted to in us. If you are really fortunate as we have been, you also find a friend for life!
