Alpha Sigma Alpha will award service grants to eligible collegiate and alumnae chapters. These service grants are to be used to help off-set the costs associated with the service work completed by the chapter during D.O.T. Days.

The following guidelines and expectations should be considered when applying for a D.O.T. Days service grant:

  • Any funding that is awarded must be used for supplies that will allow the chapter to do service that is needed by the sites being served the week of D.O.T. Days (Oct. 2-8, 2017).
    • Examples of supplies members might need to complete a service experience include but are not limited to:
      • lawn tools, supplies or gloves to help at a local park
      • cleaning supplies to clean cages at a local animal shelter
      • trash bags to help clean after a community festival
      • art supplies to lead an activity at an after-school program
      • food supplies to prepare a meal for residents/guests of a non-profit facility
  • Funding from a service grant cannot be offered to an agency as a monetary donation.
  • Supplies used to conduct the service experience may be donated to the agency after the service work is completed by the chapter. Ex: leftover paint/brushes used to paint an agency

Service grants amount and reimbursement

  • Service grants will be offered as a reimbursement only; chapters are expected to cover the costs up-front.
    • Collegiate chapters who are awarded a service grant will be reimbursed directly to their chapter Billhighway account.
    • Alumnae chapters who are awarded a service grant will provide documentation as to who the reimbursement should be sent to.
  • Service grant amounts will be awarded based on the anticipated expenses a chapter will incur for the services to be offered. Applying chapters are asked to be realistic about their anticipated expenses.
  • Selected chapters will receive a maximum of $200 in reimbursement of supply costs. Reimbursement will only cover what is shown to have been spent by the chapter with the post-event documentation and accompanying receipts.

Application process

  • All grant applications must be submitted by Aug. 21, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. ET
  • Chapters selected to receive a service grant will be notified by Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017.
  • Selected chapters will need to complete post-event documentation and submit all receipts no later than Friday, Oct. 29, 2017 to be eligible for the reimbursement.
  • Chapters are encouraged to be as detailed as possible in the service grant application including all relevant information about the site, the expected work at the site, the anticipated supplies needed, etc. Please note: advanced preparation for D.O.T. Days is necessary to create a strong service grant application.
