Messages of Gratitude

I am grateful for Alpha Sigma Alpha and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation for believing in me and giving me ample leadership opportunities. I am grateful for Alpha Sigma Alpha for giving me the Theta Gamma Chapter. The Sorority has provided me both formal leadership positions and informal opportunities, such as serving as Panhellenic delegate and chapter president for the past year. The confidence Alpha Sigma Alpha has given me has pushed me farther than I have ever expected and I have grown immensely because of this.  The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation saw the potential in me to be one of the scholarship recipients this year, which means the world knowing that the Foundation saw as much in me as much as I see in this Sorority. The Foundation will continue to provide me with possible leadership opportunities in the future by enhancing my qualifications. Alpha Sigma Alpha and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation have given me more than I could have ever expected before being a member and applying for a scholarship. I will be forever grateful for the opportunities their partnership has provided.

As the Ritual of Alpha Sigma Alpha, I am grateful for Alpha Sigma Alpha and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation partnership because it allows members to live the calls to action that are written on my pages.

Through the Ritual, Alpha Sigma Alpha members agree to put forth “our best efforts toward helping the sorority realize its high ideals along every line of endeavor.” The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation honors this by recognizing undergraduate and graduate members and non-members with over 20 different types of scholarship awards.

Through the Ritual, Alpha Sigma Alpha members agree to use the ideals of Alpha Sigma Alpha to “rise again, beautiful and enduring as before.” The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation honors this by supporting members who are experiencing an unforeseen financial emergency with the Janice Adams Member Assistance Fund.

Through the Ritual, Alpha Sigma Alpha members are recognized for “nurturing those entrusted to your care.” The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation pays tribute to this by offering the Freida Riley Award for Teaching Excellence to deserving educators.

Through the Ritual, Alpha Sigma Alpha members are reminded that the “unseen but close bonds of our sisterhood can be found in groups of women from state to state merged into one composite family.” The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation inspires collegiate chapters to contribute to the greater organization through the Foundation Chapter Challenge whose monies support the development of members through educational programs.

Through the Ritual, Alpha Sigma Alpha members affirm that they will “be ready at all times to assist” in every possible way. The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation serves as a conduit to this as members of all ages can leave a legacy through charitable contributions for the betterment of Sorority members.

The partnership between Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation is reciprocal. Each is better due to the contributions of the other. Each is based on the calls to action written on my pages. As The Ritual of Alpha Sigma Alpha, I am grateful for this partnership.

I am grateful for Alpha Sigma Alpha and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation because I am being introduced to many new opportunities, sisters and role models through my emerging chapter process. Being a part of the Sorority and something bigger then myself has brought me out of my shell and helped me to become the leader and woman I had the potential to be. Alpha Sigma Alpha has also helped me expand my service in the Cleveland area by introducing me to the local chapters of Girls on the Run and Special Olympics. Volunteering at the Special Olympics bowling tournament was an incredible experience and I met so many great people. I am so grateful for the upcoming installation on Nov. 18. I look forward to all the opportunities I’ll have from the Sorority and Foundation as an established chapter next semester such as The Academy, which will be in Cleveland!

We are grateful for Alpha Sigma Alpha and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation, because these organizations show that becoming a sister of Alpha Sigma Alpha lasts long beyond our days as an active member. The focus Alpha Sigma Alpha places on ensuring that members are given opportunities to grow, to continue their education and to develop into women of poise and purpose, are forever appreciated by the sisters of Beta Nu Chapter.

We love giving to this Foundation every year because we see the impact it leaves on our organization. The Foundation provides endless opportunities for growth and continued leadership development for members of this organization. Members have been able to attend conferences from regional to national events and receive scholarships, all thanks to donors who give through the Foundation. We are grateful for the Sorority and the Foundation partnership and the opportunities they provide for sisters of all ages because both will continue to make an impact on lives for years to come.

I am grateful for Alpha Sigma Alpha and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation because I know our Sorority’s long commitment of promoting women’s empowerment, education and personal pursuit of excellence is more than just a cherished ideal; it is also a project that we are actively committed to and working toward through our partnership with the Foundation.

I am proud to be a member of an organization that both honors women’s achievements as part of our core values and assists the pursuit of those achievements through our giving and programming. My work as Alpha Sigma Alpha National Historian and as a professional historian working in higher education has impressed on me the vital importance of providing support for and encouragement to women seeking to expand their personal horizons. Our dynamism and our action are urgently needed. My research in the Sorority’s National Archives allows me to see our long tradition of service and giving in action and to take pride in the fact that helping women reach their potential has always been an integral part of our Sorority’s heritage. During each visit to the Archives, I am inspired by Wilma Wilson Sharp, whose vision, energy and vitality still leap off the pages of her letters. She was a passionate advocate of women’s empowerment, and I think we can all learn much from her example.

Please join me in supporting the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation as a chance to support our values in action. We are helping shape the lives of women whose own vitality and vision will change the world. Be a part of that!
