Meet Chayna Wilson

Chayna Wilson, EM, is the advisory board district liaison for District 3. She is an alumna of the College of New Jersey and has been a volunteer for Alpha Sigma Alpha since 1991.

“Chayna Wilson has always amazed me,” said District 2 Membership Commitment Leader Donna Haines. “She has been a fantastic friend and mentor. She gives from her heart. As she holds multiple roles within the organization, but her best position is sister. She welcomed me into my role as volunteer and has supported me whenever I reached out.”

Her passion

I am passionate about music. I have been singing for more than 40 years and have been in my church choir for 36 years. I have been the choir director for the past 16 years. I also sing with a group that performs Handel’s Messiah for the past 6 years. I have performed in more than 20 musicals, and yes, I was in the band in high school. I was in marching band for four years (drum major my junior and senior years) as well as wind ensemble and woodwind choir.

Presently I volunteer with the Hightstown High School marching band by taking pictures of their competitions.

Her role model

I don’t know if I can pick just one.

My mom all of my aunts have been great role models. They have taught me to be a strong, independent woman who goes after what she wants. They supported me and encouraged me to go out and see the world, make my mark and help someone else along the way.

Sorority sisters have always been a source of inspiration: Kelly Morrello, Julie Wiley, Shelly Wile, Nikki Kawalec, Gerry Cox, Marcia Jacquette, Mary Kate Metzger, Lori Hobart, Erika Butts, Christy Adams just to name a few have shown me what unconditional friendship between sisters truly means. They make me proud everyday to be a part of an amazing organization.

“To find dominate beauty in art, literature, nature and friendships”…these women are beautiful to me every day.

Her proudest moment

I love to travel. I have been to 44 of the 50 states (completed the entire east coast before I was 21) and have traveled to three other continents. Of course that means that there needs to be documentation of those trips so I have taken thousands of photographs.

From Parliament to the Pyramids to the Panama Canal, I have photographed it. I actually won a photography contest for work and had my picture featured in the company calendar that was seen all over the country.

Her favorite quote

Not so surprising one of my favorite quotes is from Walt Disney and it truly says it all.

“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney

Her last word

I am an only child, but I have three Godchildren that I get to spoil and a very large extended family.

Shopping is a sport in my family and we are all gold medalists in it!

Those who know be best know that I have an obsession with Disney. I’ve gone for my birthday for the last seven years. I own five pairs of Mickey ears and a real tiara because every woman needs one, and I take them with me every time I go.

My words of wisdom are to love and know yourself before you try to love anyone else. People should not “complete” you; be complete all by yourself and let others be a compliment to you. Keep those friends who have stuck by you in times of trouble, they are the ones who will truly be happy for you when you succeed. Don’t forget to thank those people as well.
