According to the two year Research Initiative conducted by The Center for Advanced Social Research at the University of Missouri-Columbia, membership in a fraternity or sorority has several positive impacts. Fraternity or sorority membership increased student retention approximately 28% more than non-Greek students. Greek alumni also tend to be more successful financially than other graduates. “The research findings show that young men and women who take an active part in a men’s or women’s fraternity or sorority are more likely to stay in college and to support their alma maters as alumni,” said former NPC Chairman Lissa Bradford and former NIC President Idris R. Traylor in a news release. The study also found that Greeks are more involved in campus and community activities both as students and as graduates.

About our chapters
- We have 72 collegiate chapters that can be found at an array of institutions. These collegiate chapters make up over 3,500 members.
- We also have 73 alumnae chapters all across the country that provide an opportunity for members to stay involved and reconnect with members. Alumnae chapters also have meetings where leadership opportunities are available and they participate philanthropic events, etc. Alumnae chapters provide our members with lifelong opportunities well beyond the college experience.
How mothers become members of Alpha Sigma Alpha
Moms: Did you not have the opportunity to join an NPC sorority? Think about sharing this experience with your daughter. All you have to do is fill out the Initiation of an Alumna form and agree to educate and help support the potential alumna throughout the initiation process. Once the form and check have been received the petition will be forwarded to national council for a review and a vote. We want to share our sisterhood and Ritual with women who are going to contribute to this organization and truly make a difference.

Alpha Sigma Alpha will provide your daughter with an opportunity to be a member of an organization that develops women of poise and purpose. Will it interfere with her academics?
Being involved in a Greek organization does mean that your daughter will need to learn time management skills. Yet, since your daughter is at school to get an education, her number one priority should be her academics. AΣA stresses academic support to our members and wants them to reach their fullest potential during their collegiate years. The collegiate chapter has several standards in place including GPA requirements that will help your daughter stay on track and succeed.
